Part 2: The name “The Pillar Projct”
The Un-movable Pillar
Revelation 3:11-12,
“I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.”
What does it mean to be “unmoved?” Now don’t get me wrong, some might compare being unmoved to numbness. Quite frankly, one is aware and grounded in purpose, while the the other struggles to feel, or know what to feel. Both can be a product of trial and hardship, but both do not produce the same fruit. Where ones life experience might cause a person to numb, it might cause another to strengthen. What is the reason for this? Is it based on genetics? Family History? Is it because of the trauma in my life? Or lack there of?
As humans, we are all partakers in, and fall victim to, sin. The way we think, what we know, and who we are have been affected by sin and its desire to hold us down, keep us numb, and in bondage. In the natural body, numbness is the result of the lack of circulation. Out of over 10 Million sensory neurons in the body, when we suppress or cut off the blood supply, we lose the feeling of whole body parts. This is also the reason for CPR when someones heart suddenly stops. CPR is used to keep blood flowing and without it, the lack of oxygen circulating will begin to destroy the body, especially the brain. Numbness, in this regard, can then be used as a signal to be revived.
God’s desire, as stated in the first pillar explanation, is to draw us BACK to Him. Creation, reuniting with the Creator. And the plan, from the beginning, was always through Jesus. Not only does Jesus redeem us through HIS own sacrifice, but empowers us through His word and by the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus uses a parable in the book of Matthew that says “
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
(Matthew 7:24-27)
In the opening passage above of Revelation 3, this letter serves as a warning and encouragement to His church. That if we “HOLD FAST” and “conquer”, He will make him a “Pillar” in the temple of God. The greek word for pillar is στῦλος, and is pronounced “Stu-los”, which means to stiffen, to support (as in support true doctrine), and used of person of authority. (References)
In learning this, and studying through scripture, we can be be confident in our faith that it is not in our own strength, but in the strength of a mighty, unmovable God. The more we draw near to the Lord, the more he draws near to us.
